Hi,
I just noticed that grep 2.5.3 has come out and decided to build it on
several platforms. On vax-dec-ultrix4.5, a platform with a badly out of
date included grep, GNU grep 2.5.3 refuses to build because I do not have
an acceptable grep:
checking for grep that handles long lines and -e... configure: error: no
acceptable grep could be found in
/usr/local/bin:/usr/ucb:/bin:/usr/bin:/etc:/etc/sec:/usr/etc:/usr/etc/sec:/usr/new:/usr/hosts:.:/usr/xpg4/bin
This is not good - 2.5.1a did not require a "good" grep, so I can fall
back to building that first, but this dependency seems like the sort of
thing that should be avoided. Or at least documented somewhere.
