Regarding grep performacne 2.5.1

Hi,

I am using grep 2.5.1 windows based code in my application. I simply set the
search pattern(s) (seperated by \n)  to the grep and apply grep continuously
on buffer of 4KB. I have observed that when i increases the size of search
pattern(s) (means I increases the number of search pattern) grep's
performance degrades and grep takes more time to search the string.

Can you help me in identifying the reason that wether its a normal grep
behaviour or its some bug in Grep 2.5.1 version or might be fault in my
code.
