I have but one single compilation problem with groff-1.18.1 on my
trusty HP-UX 10.20 box:

make[2]: Leaving directory /mnt/disk4/gnu/groff-1.18.1/src/preproc/tbl'
make[2]: Entering directory /mnt/disk4/gnu/groff-1.18.1/src/preproc/pic'
g++ -I. -I/users2/gnu/groff-1.18.1/src/preproc/pic
-I/users2/gnu/groff-1.18.1/src/include -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -g -O2  -c pic.cc
pic.y: In function char* do_sprintf(const char*, const double*, int)':
pic.y:1846: snprintf' undeclared (first use this function)
pic.y:1846: (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once for each
   it appears in.)
make[2]: *** [pic.o] Error 1
make[2]: Leaving directory /mnt/disk4/gnu/groff-1.18.1/src/preproc/pic'
make[1]: *** [src/preproc/pic] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory /mnt/disk4/gnu/groff-1.18.1'
make: *** [all] Error 2

I use:
GNU Make 3.80
bison (GNU Bison) 1.50
