GROFF VERSION: 1.19
MACHINE: PC, P4
OS: Linux Redhat 8.0
COMPILER: g++ 3.2
INPUT FILES: man_ex mktest
Both files are attached
COMMAND LINE: groff file-name > foo.ps
DESCRIPTION OF INCORRECT BEHAVIOUR:
The file man_ex is a copy of the example towards the
end of the groff_diff man page.
In compatibility mode, it is supposed to produce a *single*
backslash. It produces two.
An old ("classical") version of troff does produce a single backslash.
File mktest produces different results with a classical version of troff and
with groff.
The reason is related to transparent throughput.
Classical troff print "LAST LINE" on the same line as "Line 4"
With groff, "LAST LINE" is printed on the line of "Line 3"
and instead of "Line 4" by itself, you get
\!.mk Line 4
