Well, in config log you can find this:

  g++ -o conftest -g -O2   conftest.cc  >&5


  ./conftest: error while loading shared libraries:
   libstdc++.so.6: cannot open shared object file:
    No such file or directory

This is not related to groff, I think.  Can you manually run g++?
There are not too many programs out there which actually require g++.

This has been fixed already in the CVS, which you might try too.
