Fixing this correctly will require a feature change.
We will have to add font descriptions for the TeX cmsl10 and cmbxsl10 fonts.
There are a few stages to this.
1. We'll need to generate groff font descriptions for them (and come up with
groff font names). Lacking anything better, I propose "TRS" and "TBS" for
Times roman slanted and Times bold slanted, respectively.
2. But before we can do that we may need to write new map files for them for
_tfmtodit_(1) to use. This point needs to be checked. If this is done, the
_tfmdodit_ man page will need to be updated to document it.
3. dvi.tmac will need to declare TRS and TBS as font-specific fallback special
fonts for TI and TBI.
