Update of bug #66233 (group groff):

                  Status:                    None => Need Info

Follow-up Comment #1:

The summary of this ticket is unintelligible to me.

1. Invoking "./nroff" is _how_ you bypass a $PATH lookup for an "nroff"
command.

2. The nroff shell script does not re-execute itself, by a name looked up in
$PATH or otherwise.

3. If what you mean to say is that the "nroff" in a build tree executes the
*groff* command from the $PATH, that is deliberate. That is what it is
supposed to do.

4. nroff is not test-groff. I seem to remember you have a test-nroff script
in your private fork of _groff_. You'll need to use that if you want to run
the nroff script without installing it.

5.  I maintain a shell alias that serves as a near-nroff-workalike, because I
perform experiments with "nroff mode" formatting with very high frequency when
developing _groff_.

$ type tgu
tgu is aliased to `./build/test-groff -b -ww -Tutf8'

Maybe that will be of use to you. It assumes a separate build directory and
that one is in the root of the working copy. I have no need for anything more
"powerful"; when I want to test a build, that is all that I want. The alias
also assumes that I am using a UTF-8 terminal, because I (nearly) always am.

I am inclined to close this ticket as invalid but will see if it gathers any
feedback.
