Package: grub
Version: 0.5.96.1
Severity: important

I have GNU/Linux and FreeBSD on the same 20Gb hard disk.
GRUB 0.5.95 worked perfectly, but 0.5.96 broke miserably, and
0.5.96.1 didn't fix it.

The problem is the following:

grub> root (hd0,
 Possible partitions are:
Partition num: 0, Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
Partition num: 1, [BSD sub-partitions immediately follow]
BSD Partition num: 'a', Filesystem type is ffs, partition type 0xa5
Partition num: 2, Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83
Partition num: 3, [BSD sub-partitions immediately follow]
BSD Partition num: 'b', Filesystem type unknown, partition type 0xa5

grub> root (hd0,0)
Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83

grub> setup (hd0) =20
 Checking if "/boot/grub/stage1" exists... yes
 Checking if "/boot/grub/stage2" exists... yes
 Checking if "/boot/grub/e2fs_stage1_5" exists... yes
Running "embed /boot/grub/e2fs_stage1_5 (hd0)"... 15 sectors are embedded.
succeeded
 Running "install /boot/grub/stage1 d (hd0) (hd0)1+15 p (hd0,0)/boot/grub/s=
tage
2"... failed
    =20
Error 22: No such partition
    =20
grub> =20

The same with GRUB from CVS as of 2000-12-17:

grub> root (hd0,0)
Filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83

grub> setup (hd0)
 Checking if "/boot/grub/stage1" exists... yes
 Checking if "/boot/grub/stage2" exists... yes
 Checking if "/boot/grub/e2fs_stage1_5" exists... yes
Running "embed /boot/grub/e2fs_stage1_5 (hd0)"... 15 sectors are embedded.
succeeded
 Running "install /boot/grub/stage1 d (hd0) (hd0)1+15 p (hd0,0)/boot/grub/s=
tage
2 /boot/grub/menu.lst"... succeeded
Done.

grub>

The files /boot/grub/stage{1,2} and e2fs_stage1_5 are those that come with
the corresponding grub version.

I guess the problem was fixed between 200-12-09 and 2000-12-17,
because 2000-12-05 did not work, but -17 did.

Please upload a CVS snapshot, so I can have an official and working
GRUB.

Thanks,
