See the function "install_func" in the file "builtins.c", for
instance. That's quite easy.

I assume that you are thinking only Linux here. Linux decompresses
itself, so you don't understand why. Usually, an OS image doesn't
(wouldn't) decompress itself, because that's just ugly. Clearly, that
is not a task for an OS image.
