external USB keyboard not responding at first

Hello!

Specs:
Grub 0.91-2 from deb package (debian woody)
Toshiba Satellite 3000-100 with Phoenix BIOS 2.20
internal ps/2 keyboard - external USB Keyboard

I use my laptop with an external keyboard at home and when booting the 
list comes up I cannot choose one of the menu entries with my external 
keyboard. As soon as I press any key on the ps/2 it works fine. I tried 
with USB legacy enabled and disables in the BIOS. Resolving this would 
be very nice indeed.
