Hello,
Where might I be able to get some help regarding a GRUB issue?
Specifically, I'm trying to backup/restore/clone a RedHat 7.3 disk and restoring GRUB configuration to the target appears to be a sticking point.
sfdisk allows me to restore the partition table, mkfs the filesystem, and restore brings all the dump files back to a (mounted) target disk, but it won't boot.
"GRUB" is displayed on the console and the boot hangs.
I tried dd'ing the MBR (512 bytes) from the original disk to the target, but the stage2 file location is off by 1 inode on the target disk compared to the original and I suspect that's what the problem is.
My question: If I'm booted from /dev/sda , with restored disk /dev/sdb(1 and 2) mounted on /dskb and /dskb/boot, how can I invoke GRUB to update the MBR on /dev/sdb and have it point to the stage2 file that exists on partition /dev/sdb1?
Thank you for any assistance you can provide.
