Did you run "grub-install '(hdx)'"?
'x' is the install-partition in the numbering order for grub.
If you run this command it will give you a lot of information
about the setup of grub.
Maybe you can also post the lines of your 'menu.lst' file.

Only the hdd dispositions in the above meaning.
