=================== BUG #3404: FULL BUG SNAPSHOT ===================
Enviado por: sabroad Projeto: GNU GRUB
Enviado em: Qua 30-04-2003 em 15:00

Priority: None Bug Group: Software Error

Reproducibility: Every Time Planned Release:
Summary: Error 28 on loading memtest.bin (86k) with asus nforce motherboard
Original Submission: Using Grub 0.93-20030118 I can load a vanilla linux
kernel ok with an asus nforce motherboard with 512MB.
The problem arises when the following is executed:
kernel (hd0,0)/boot/memtest86/memtest.bin
Memtest86 is a small (84420 bytes) memory tester, see http://www.memtest86.com.
The error given is:
Error 28: Selected item cannot fit into memory.
I get no problem with Grub 0.92 + memtest.bin + another motherboard.
displaymem states:
Address Map BIOS Interface is present
Lower memory: 512K, Upper memory (to first chipset hole): 490416K
This problem is similar to
[ Bug #1309 ] Nforce chipsets (A7N266-VM, etc) give error 28
with the difference that I have Grub 0.93-20030118 and can load linux kernel.

I can boot and operate Memtest86 without grub as follows:
Copy memtest.bin to a floppy disk:
dd if=/boot/memtest86/memtest.bin of=/dev/fd0
Boot with the floppy.
I set Memtest86 to run the standard tests, my PC managing over 17 hours with no
errors (before I got bored and switched it off).
