Of course; I'm interested in that feature but it's not a requisite at all
it mimics lilo's way of working (And, actualy, it was discussed before that
we don't want to skip the menu when in that mode, like LILO does).

As for the "run time" issue, what do you mean exactly? The default flag is
stored in stage2, so i guess it should be ok to store the onceonly one there,
too.

Requiring use of the GRUB shell might look less "run time", but one can always
script it (I wrote a "grub-reboot" script for the Debian package, similar to
what Keir pasted a while ago).

I don't really mind about "showdefault", but my impression is that it's
useful for debugging.
