grub on cdrom?

Is it possible to create a bootable CDROM with grub on it?  I found in the
archives of this list Thierry Laronde's patch for 0.92 CVS was available, 
but I wasn't sure if that was relevant to what I'm trying to do.  Basically, 
we have some servers we are trying to cluster.  All data is stored on an 
external RAID array.  In order for the RAID controllers to work in cluster 
mode, the controller BIOS must be turned off.  Well, with the controller 
BIOS off, the system BIOS doesn't know anything about the RAID array, and 
therefore, cannot boot from it.  I've tried putting grub on floppy, but this 
doesn't work because grub seems to get its hard drive info from the system 
bios as well.  So, without knowing what hard drives are available to it, grub
can't boot my kernel.  

What I want to do is essentially copy my /boot onto a bootable iso image.
This way, when the system boots off of the cdrom, it'll be able to grab
the kernel right off the CD and boot the system.  The way I'm currently 
booting my system is by using a bootable cd and passing "root=" as an
argument.  I'm a bit surprised that I haven't found more info on how to
build a bootable grub iso image.  I currently have grub-0.93+cvs20031021-8
on debian.  Thanks for any tips.
