Loading grub after unloading kernel

I don't know if I should have asked this question in devel but I'll try it 
here.

The question... Is it possible to boot Linux, run Linux, you know, normal 
OS with its desktop, kde, gnome and all of it... and then run halt.

But not standard halt but an special halt that loads a "ready-made" grub 
version into memory and then tells cpu to run grub.

That's to say... You run grub directly without having to reboot.

Is this possible or is it quite complicated... should a kernel modification 
be needed?

My plans would be to build a live-cd that compiles grub from special setup 
configuration files... and then loads grub by this method.

If we can make configuration files from a running linux environment we will 
be able to make X apps to make easier to build grub menues.

And we could use any language to implement scripting... or at least I think 
so right now.
