[bug #15120] GRUB menu not displayed

Follow-up Comment #1, bug #15120 (project grub):

I have the same problem with my gentoo installation (same grub version). The
problem can be solved by removing the splashimage entry from your grub.conf
file. I am pretty sure i pointed to the correct location for the splashimage
but it doesnt show up (it doesnt even give an error), the only thing i see is
a blinking cursor...

On this forum there are people with the same problem, but its not clear if
all of them could resolve it:
