Details:

gfxmenu implements a partial box model like the CSS box model, at least in
name, with settings for padding and spacing. However, it is not possible to
differentiate between padding which applies to an item, and to the decorations
on that item. For example, when using boot_menu, you cannot set a padding on
the menu entries independently of the menu entry background. This is pretty
annoying when one wants to highlight an entire row - you cannot use padding,
otherwise your highlight has all the padding around it you'd rather applied
only to the item.
