File completion on kernel command line causes reset and reboot

Grub 1.98 in Mandriva cooker; grub2 is chain loaded from grub1. /boot
on separate ext2 partition, core.img includes only ext2.mod, the rest
of system is on reiserfs, ext4 and partially LVM.

Load GRUB2, start edit menuentry, position on linux line, enter init=/bin/TAB

System silently resets.

It sounds similar to 28996 except it is probably caused by missing
driver (/bin is on root which is reiserfs)
