Thanks.  Since the log file doesn's show anything related to
libpthread I assume the link must be created by an external command
such as /usr/bin/install or, more likely, ldconfig.  You could try
executing some examples of those commands from the log output
individually to see where the problem is occurring.

It definitely looks like an issue with FC2 rather than GSL -- I would
recommend raising it on their mailing list too.  I think it is likely
that you will see the same problem with any package installed using
libtool.
