hi to All,
This is also directed to users of gtypist that are on this list,
I would very much welcome feedback from you!
Recently a friend of mine tested gtypist under Ubuntu and didn't know a
few things:
- -e option (the default, -e 3, is too hard for most beginners)
- how to resize the terminal (the default is too small to use comfortably)?
- do you have to press Enter at the end of each line (could be space as
well)?
- good: drills and speedtests are explained in the manual
- ...
I currently see two ways of making gtypist more beginner friendly:
I. Write a tutorial that tells about above things such as using -e 5|10,
how to resize a terminal, how to show Enter symbols (unicode
0x23CE) which should help beginners (but annoys more experienced users!)
and so on.
II. Add a "beginner mode" which is enabled by default, and can be turned off
by --expert/-x
- this would set -e 5|10
- this would explicitly show "return symbols"
- includes a help page that explains drills/speedtests, how to resize a
terminal window, how to disable "beginner mode", ...
- how is that help page shown?
x either we have a beginner.typ that is executed before gtypist.typ
in beginner mode (requires switching of *.typ during runtime, which
isn't yet implemented) or
x we have special T:[BEGINNER] commands that are only executed in
beginner mode
So what do you think?
Best Regards,
