Does it launch external programs from inside gtypist? Or is it a wrapper
that launches extrenal programs and then runs gtypist on each generated
script?

Quite possibly. If you have modified gtypist to launch external programs
to generate scripts (as your description seems to imply), then are you
actually *switching* script at runtime? This is a feature that we've
discussed adding to gtypist for a while and your code modifications
would be interesting to see.
On the other hand, if you have written a script that launches external
programs and runs gtypist on the generated scripts (we already do
something similar to this with the `typefortune` script), we still might
be interested in including your script.
Either way, your modifications would be interesting to see.
