I finally created an option --sync-ahead for this (default is on, to
keep current behavior) [1].
Do you want to test this?

Also, could you build the master branch (I can upload a distribution for
you if you cannot build from git)? There were changes for *BSD [2],
which has ncurses in include/curses.h, and we could extend/fix this rule
to/in Arch?
