Can you type ,locals at that point, to display local variables?

Most likely the problem is that (%nixpkgs-directory) is #f.  To fix
that, you need to either run configure --with-nixpkgs=/path/to/nixpkgs,
or set the ‘NIXPKGS’ environment variable.
