Right.  Not convenient, but that won’t last long.

Alternately, I think you can do:

  wget https://.../foo.tgz
  guile -c '(use-modules (guix)) \
    (add-to-store (open-connection) "foo.tgz" #f "sha256" "foo.tgz")'
