Dear Markus,

What I sent was not meant as a "finished work", but rather as experimental
ground for evaluation. Actually it would not be very useful to include the
patch in apps like gv if the xaw3dxft additions to xaw3d are not more widely
adopted. Some distributions have done so (e.g. Fedora, Gentoo, Arch linux,
but Debian/Ubuntu are lagging behind with an old incompatible version).

The best would be if xaw3dxft could be reviewed at the xorg-devel level.
Changing things deeper (like soname and so on) would have an effect
on maintainance things like configure scripts. I'll anyway send you
a patch for configure.ac in a couple of days in the present state of
affairs (I am mostly on travel and unavailable for a couple of days) -
for now, you have to edit configure or the Makefile by hand, replacing
the include dir and -lXaw3d by -lXaw3dxft -lXft should be enough.

Greetings,
Jean-Pierre Demailly
