gzip has switched from cvs to git.
To check out the code using git, use this command:

    git clone git://git.sv.gnu.org/gzip.git

to browse it via the web, use one of these:

    http://git.savannah.gnu.org/gitweb/?p=gzip.git
    http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/gzip.git

The CVS repository will be retired soon.

I've pushed a few patches.

I'm sure there are a few more bugs that are fixed
e.g., in debian, fedora, etc. but not yet here in upstream.
If you know of any, a reminder to bug-gzip would be welcome.
