Without the patches, for example,
"./configure --program-transform-name='s/^z/gz/'"
followed by "make install" installs gzcat.1, not
zcat.1.  Isn't that what you want?

Ooops! I have just tried and you are right, thanks. For some reason the fact that gzip can already rename man pages escaped me.

I think this solves the incompatibility between gzip's scripts and zutils. :-)
