Oops. I never noticed because my machine has an old installation sitting
there. The source is still there, but the module was commented out in
the modules.x86.pc file so it doesn't get built. The comment says
"believed to be broken".
I've put in a configure check and conditionalized it so that the build
should fail only with --enable-smp.
