Perhaps the GNU project should have thought about a portable
virtual-file system library in the spririt of gnulib back then when
it become at least possible that the Hurd was not ready as basis
   for the desktop.

Or perhaps people should shutup and make the Hurd a viable choice for
the desktop...

Just like it is totally hilarious SPI had GNOME as one of their
projects up at their website, it's unrealistic that GNOME is still
considerd to be a GNU project these days, apart from the name.

The only thing that is important is that 1) Stallman "blessed" the
project, and 2) that the project themself consider to be apart of the
GNU project--which they do.

That another organisation considers to have the project to be a part
of them is their full right. Just like I can consider the Hurd to be
one of my own projects that I work on in the conjuction with others.

As for the copyright assigment state, that is a sad affair... Maybe
they will change their minds now with the the soap opera "SCO". And
it is _our_ job to make the GNOME people aware of us, not theirs to be
aware of us. If _we_ don't send patches for implementing fun stuff
that we would like, then we are at fault not the GNOME project.
