You're using the Debian hurd package, I guess. The patch included in
there that enables file systems bigger than 2 GiB has the disadvantage
that only file systems with block sizes of 4096 bytes will work at all.
Your possibilities now are: a) investigate and fix this problem
(nontrivial), b) simply create and use file systems only with a block
size of 4096 bytes, c) use the ext2fs translator from
<http://nic-nac-project.de/~schwinge/tmp/ext2fs-pre_ogi.static.bz2> for
file systems smaller than 2 GiB, d) if you need the fatfs translator: ask
me to compile an equivavlent one or do it yourself.
