Sounds like the ranlib executable is missing, do you have binutils

Yes I have binutils installed. And also I have ranlib executable under
"grep RANLIB config.make" probably returns an empty "RANLIB="?

I can't see `config.make' anywhere... Instead, I did

  grep RANLIB config.make.in

and it told me
