But you wouldn't use "ermitteln" here if you wrote it in German -- would
you? :-) I agree that it's similar in meaning to words like
"herausfinden" -- yet different enough to make it sound awkward... Or at
least it sounds awkward to me.

I see... One might argue that it's still good to show the progress; but
I wouldn't insist.
