Two questions:
i) Why do you compile from source on Ubuntu, when Ubuntu ships indent
already, and it's obviously newer than 2.2.9?
ii) Please try http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/indent/archive/tip.tar.gz
and report if it works for you.
