Maybe a bug report is in order anyway, just to see if anyone else with a
testing system can reproduce it? Git is not that complex so it should
be possible to track down what the problem is.
FWIW, I think someone did a garbage collect on the savannah gnulib
repository relatively recently (i.e., within one year).
