In the light of a complete lack of response and comment,
I just went forward to push the particular change set
for which I finally found good arguments.
The resulting SYSLOG server has been tested on OpenBSD
for a couple of days, to ensure expected functionality
as loghost and as forwarder, using static listener,
and using dynamic forwarding sockets. The system accepted
messages via IPv6 from GNU/Linux and forwarded via IPv6
to OpenSolaris!
Extended testing under load would be welcome, but is
nothing I am in a position to arrange.
The new binding option has been wanted in Debian's
bug tracking system for years, so that should be
welcome by some users.
Best regards,
Mats
