At the moment, it seems that LilyPond thinks of the _ or "" as a graphical object with a rhythmic position, and that's exactly the kind of objects that prevents the stave from being removed. We send it as a feature request to bug-lilypond to make LilyPond smarter in this respect. /Mats Arvid Grøtting wrote:
