\cresc is prefix because it expands in cresc = { #(ly:export (make-event-chord (list cr))) \set crescendoText = \markup { \italic "cresc." } \set crescendoSpanner = #'dashed-line }Now that we have tweak, it's technically feasible to make a postfix \cresc command instead, but it requires some C++ hacking. This is work for Lily 3.0, since changing it would break backwards compatibility badly.
I'll note that \cr and \cresc aren't in the documentation. Han-Wen, should they be?
