Unfortunately this hasn't been added to the NEWS file yet, but convert-ly _does_ handle it. \tempo is now obsolete. There's a new messy way to set the tempo (which you'll see when you run convert-ly, which you should always do it you're tracking unstable and something breaks). We're currently trying to figure out what the user-friendly midi tempo setting should look like.
