It's a technical issue. Normally, rests are positioned by SCM Rest::y_offset_callback (SCM smob) in the case of beams, positioning is taken over by SCM Beam::rest_collision_callback (SCM smob, SCM prev_offset)which doesn't account for #'direction property of a rest. Patches appreciated.
