Since "8" and "15" are much more commonly used, I'd argue it's not
just a matter of taste; they are the de facto standard for
octavations.

'Nuisance' is perhaps a bit strong; it's more of a minor inconvenience
if one creates a macro.

Your suggestion of a new property or variable sounds like the way to
go. I'll see what I can do.
