Graham, I did the git add and the git commit -a (put in the comments, nice and
descriptive but not too verbose ;) ) but when i ran

git format-patch HEAD as per the CG instructions, I just got my prompt back with no message and git status shows me one commit ahead of the mater, and no files to 'add'
or still to be commited, but no patch file, at least one I can see.

I can try and redo this, but am not sure how to reset the files to git add them
again, safely.

Can I just do a null edit (add a char and delete it and save if you see what I mean) which will force the file to be modified and then the smae for the graphics and try
again?

I can see why this git stuff, would put many off from helping with Lilypond as it is rather, shall we say, esoteric at least to us non-programmers but I can also see how we can improve the Contributor's Guide as I am obviously one of those 'newbies' who
doesn't know much about checking in and out code.

Anyway, I'll keep bashing on until I get this...don't worry, but if you could give
me some advice (again) I'd appreciate it.
