WTM?!  James did everything correctly!
- he checked our policy.
- he discovered the way to break up a long line.  "Use a traiiling
backslash" is what I was hoping that you would discover if you did a
the google searches that I asked you to.
- he offered to take care of the patch.

Unix uses a backslash to break up a long command-line.  The resulting
lines are parsed just like a "full command line".

  ls \
 -a \
  -l \

does exactly the same thing as
  ls -a -l *.png
