Huh?  If you see Ghostscript command line interfaces, you are calling
the wrong version of Ghostscript, or using the wrong options.

For X, there is some executable called gsnd or so (Ghostscript no
display), but you should not really need it if the devices are already
set on the command line.  For Windows, something like gswin32c is needed
(the c is important).

It's not me that calls Ghostscript, it's LilyPond. Once LilyPond has finished compiling the .ps file, you get a brief "command prompt" window while the .pdf/.png is being generated. I've always presumed this is GS. Generally, it's not a problem, and I'd guess most Windows folk find it helpful, since it's the only real indication that LP has pretty much finished. But when you're compiling 800 odd files twice, it gets in the way a bit.
