The rest of 11.10 appears mostly unaffected. It is conceivable that there are other code stability issues, but I have been using 11.10 (compiled with 4.6) without obvious problems for half a year at least.
So since Lilypond itself is no longer afflicted with the code generation problem, I don't really see a justification for that step.
