In certain versions.  It used to work at some point of time, and then
the current solution would have failed.  And it is rather an aspect of a
feature that is buggy.

In some versions of GhostScript which are hopefully more likely to be
used by our users than those versions in which the proposed fix will
make previously working files fail.

To be honest, I have not even tested the fix.  And the versioning of
GhostScript and its bugs is not in my hand.  I am not even sure I have a
version of GhostScript showing the bug.
