Indeed, but I didn't give it any stem direction instructions, it picks
the colliding direction on its own.

Using standard stem direction methods.

By the way - if you want to spend near to £400 on Sibelius, this is what is produces given the same input (i.e cross staff stems, no specification of voicing).
