Generic commandline tools

I'm just looking through the mailutils package for a generic tool(s)
to use from the commands line.  I'm thinking something like:

"mailbox --retrieve 1"
"mailbox --delete 1"

Maybe with some other clever options like --without-headers, or
--with-headers="from to"

I don't see anything quite like it here.  Any thoughts before I start
coding?
