imap not preserving blank lines in mbox format

I'm using squirrelmail and reading my mbox-format inbox via imap.  It
appears that if I delete a message using squirrelmail, subsequent
messages in the file lose the blank line that should be present before
the "From " delimiter that marks the start of the message.  A bug in the
imap server?
