sequence numbers mismatch

Message number inconsistency found in .mh_sequences file content.

The file, mu_sequences, is not being set to the correct message numbers.
I believe that the starting number for the counter is not being set with the 
correct value.

Example: After opening up MH-E I have:
      --------
      .mh_sequences file contains:   1- 11    correct number of messages but 
not message numbers
      screen display             : 171-181 in  inbox (MH_FOLDER)
      file system contains       : 171-181 (output from ls cmd)
      ---------

After reading the messages 171-181 I mark them for deletion, 'D'.
Then I try to expunge them 'x', but get an error and they are not deleted.  
Message shows:

      ---------
   " Errors when executing: rmm +inbox 171-181 "
   " rmm: no messages in range 1-11            "
     ---------

I recall reading about some changes to mbox or mailbox structures and wonder if 
this could be a side effect of those changes.
